York Musical Society performs Schubert's Mass in G for the first time on Sunday (28th) at York Minster.
Dvorak's Mass in D and Faur's Requiem complete the 6.30pm programme for this Passiontide concert, in which three of the four soloists, soprano Katy Tansie, alto Alison Kettlewell and bass Gavin Carr, are new to the society.
The fourth, tenor Nicholas Watts, sang with the society last year. He is based in London but was originally from the York area, where his parents still live.
Society publicist Joyce Goodwin says: "The choir is greatly enjoying the rehearsals under conductor Philip Moore. The Schubert piece is new to us all and is very beautiful; we may have sung the Dvorak before but it's not well known to the choir as a body, and once again it's a wonderful mass.
"I would suspect that the majority have sung Faur's Requiem before and many will know it by heart, because it's one of the most loved works in our repertoire. Most of the work in this concert will be borne by the choir so we hope that we will rise to the occasion."
Tickets: £6 to £15, concessions £5 to £13, from York Theatre Royal, tel 01904 623568, or on the door.
