Like their fellow 'popular' classical artists The
Opera Babes and violin quartet Bond, talented fiddle players Craig Owen and Greg Scott show that you can straddle any musical genres, as long as you are good-looking enough.
Their Pete Waterman-produced debut album contains highly polished performances of some of the cheesiest classical tunes around.
For the most part, the pop guru has refrained from interfering too much with the music, but a few old favourites have been jazzed up - such as the immortal Pachelbel's Canon, given a bit of ambient spin here. The violinists' playing is full and rich, betraying their origins of busking to large audiences in Manchester.
In the main, this approach works well, but some pieces could have benefited from more subtle treatment, such as the overblown version of Boccherini's delicate Minuet. More modern classics such as Morricone's Chi Mai suit the players' over-the-top style much better. Pleasant listening, overall.
