GOALKEEPER Mark Ovendale was the man of the match for York City reserves as they were held to a 1-1 draw.
A mistake by Steven Baynes saw Chris Black run through on goal to unleash a shot into the top right hand side of Ovendale's goal after just four minutes and signal Rovers' intent.
Rob O'Brien forced the City man to a plunging save 20 minutes later with the stop of the game coming five minutes before half-time when Ovendale reacted to palm a close-range effort over the crossbar.
Adebayo Akinfenwa and Adriano Rigoglioso both kept up the pressure in the second half with a series of sharp efforts, Rigoglioso rattling the underside of the bar.
Matthew Coad had volleyed home for the Minstermen after seven minutes from a Stephen Downes cross to equalise, while Lev Yalcin teed up Adam Arthur and captain Stephen Brackstone several times in vain.
