THREE railway station workers have been reunited with the pensioner whose life they saved in a dramatic platform rescue.
Doctors told Lewis Sanders, 85, of Acomb, York, that it was a "miracle" he was still alive after he suffered a heart attack and collapsed at York Station.
British Transport Police constables Kevin Andrews and Fiona Hobson raced to his side and performed cardiac massage and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation for two minutes.
Meanwhile, GNER customer service assistant Anne Barratt fetched a high-tech defibrillator which she successfully used to restart his heart.
Doreen Sanders, 87, said her husband "owed his life" to the threesome, and that she would never forget their actions.
She said: "If he had not collapsed where he did and these people had not been there he simply would not be here today."
Mr Sanders, who spent five weeks in hospital recovering from the ordeal on September 7, said he was very grateful to everyone who helped him.
The work of both constables was recognised with a Chief Constable's Commendation at a ceremony in London earlier this week.
PC Andrews said: "There's no doubt that this was the most harrowing experience I have had in 26 years of policing.
"It was a very scary and humbling experience. To get the award was nice, but to see him here today is even better."
