YORK College has been given £500,000, after being named a centre of vocational excellence for its stonemasonry course.
The college is the first in the country to be given the title for stonemasonry, awarded by the Learning and Skills Council.
The funding will provide new workshop facilities, stone processing machinery and saw equipment.
College principal Mike Galloway said: "We're delighted to have got this highly-coveted recognition.
"The Centre of Vocational Excellence recognises the hard work and dedication of the staff in the construction department here.
"We will be able to lead the way in further improving the quality of the stonemasonry department, forging links with employers, industry and schools, to meet regional as well as national employment needs."
