I WAS walking down Stonebow and there were some workmen re-laying some block paving.
They had barriers to stop you walking on the pavement and had set up a pedestrian walkway on the road.
There was a very old and frail woman in front of me who was pushing a shopping trolley.
As she got to the barrier she was quite confused about where to go. One of the workmen stopped what he was doing and guided her to the walkway, helped her down the kerb with her trolley as she was struggling with it and then moved the barriers that were making the walkway on the road so that she could get herself and her trolley through and back on to the pavement at the other side of the works.
He could have just ignored her and let her struggle, but he was kind and helpful.
I am sure having someone treat her in this way must have made her day. It certainly made mine to see someone showing such consideration for an old lady.
