Malton and Norton won 29-14 in a friendly game at home to Powergen North One side Driffield in horrendous weather at The Gannock.
It is the first visit Driffield have ever made to The Gannock. Malton played the first half into the teeth of a gale but soon had Driffield stretched.
A perfectly judged chip by Malton skipper Chris Creber evaded the Driffield cover and Ian Cooke swooped to score under the posts, converting his own try.
David Webster seized on loose ball just outside the Malton 22 and pinned his ears back for the line. Interplay with his support players eventually released Liam Cowton to score under the posts and for Cooke to convert.
Creber broke to the blindside and just before being bundled into touch released the ball for James McKay to crash over.
Malton attacked at every opportunity but during one of these the Driffield winger stripped the ball from a Malton player and sprinted 50 metres to score under the posts.
A Driffield prop was sent off for stamping but a lapse in Malton's concentration led to Driffield scoring a converted try. Malton led 19-14 at half-time.
Duncan Foster and McKay received yellow cards for professional fouls. After they returned Malton started to turn the screw.
Creber created space to release McKay to crash over. Cooke pounced for his second score on the stroke of full time.
Former veteran Malton front row player Steve Riddolls said after the game that Creber is only the second Malton captain to beat Driffield after the legendary Russell Stead.
