MUSEUM bosses in York remained optimistic today their bid to capture a national treasure would be successful.
Chiefs at the National Railway Museum travelled to London yesterday to visit the Flying Scotsman, which will be sold at the beginning of next month.
The NRM has already raised more than £220,000 in a nationwide appeal to bring the famous steam locomotive to Leeman Road.
Andrew Scott, head of the NRM, said: "The National Railway Museum is very interested in what we have seen.
"Flying Scotsman is an 80-year-old veteran and despite this, is in fundamentally good working order.
"It has been inspected by our specialists and although its periodic overhaul is needed in a couple of years, there were no unwelcome surprises."
