Bengal Brasserie, the York-based group of restaurants has won the top accolade in the Quality Food Online awards.
Quality Food Online offers an internet restaurant guide service and in their citation, judges gave the group a Golden Award for "outstanding achievement and contribution to the pursuit of excellent food and services."
Iqbal Chowdhury, the group's general manager, said: "I am thrilled. The judgement was made after clandestine visits, so we were as prepared for them as we are for any customer."
Mr Chowdhury started the venture with Dobir Malik and chef Mohan Miah in Goodramgate in 1996. Three years later they opened what was to prove a hugely popular restaurant at York Business Park, Poppleton, and last March expanded to Market Weighton.
Mr Miah was last year's finalist in the National Curry Chef of the Year competition, and the new venture in Market Weighton won the town's Business of the Year and Restaurant of the Year titles.
