THE Evening Press carried two reports about litter in the centre of York (March 12).
What about the roads leading into the city? Last week while walking into York from Fulford I was appalled by the rubbish lying on the grass and path; paper, plastic bottles, even a child's bag full of rubbish.
A £50 on-the-spot fine for litter louts is all well and good if you can catch them. Will there be litter patrols standing on every corner to catch them?
Children should be taught from a very early age to dispose of their sweet papers, empty crisp packets etc in the litter bin and if there are none close to hand they should put them in their pockets until they get home.
Then, hopefully, they will grow up and be more responsible adults who will look after and appreciate the environment in which they live.
