ANGLERS fishing from pegs in the bridge field at Bishopthorpe dominated the 88-peg final round of the Acomb Tackle-backed York Winter League.
With the Ouse below York running low and clear the deep water pegs made most of the running, with odd bream and skimmers filling all the top places.
Dennis Murray (Tang Hall Match Group) led from five up in the bridge field, where he used a caster feeder baited with maggots for four skimmers and some roach scaling 9lb 8oz.
Brian Richardson (Cochranes) was four pegs upstream, where he took a brace of proper bream on feeder and worm for his 8lb 14oz.
Stan Haigh (Anglers World York) had the best weight away from the hot area, taking a 8lb 6oz bag from the first field at Middlethorpe. Fishing a caster feeder across to the moored boats opposite he netted skimmers and roach.
Others: Kev Ellaby (Acomb Tackle) 7-0-0; Tim Harrison (Anglers World York) 6-6-0; Mick Potter (Barlby Village Stores) 5-9-0.
Teams: Anglers World York 27-3-0; Waterline Wibsey 22-8-0; Barlby Village Stores 20-13-0; Acomb Tackle 20-8-0; Cochranes 18-11-0; South Bank 15-9-8
League final positions: Barlby Village Stores 80pts; Acomb Tackle 73; Waterline Wibsey 71; South Bank and Anglers World York both 67; Cochranes 64.
Kev Ellaby won the individual title with a superb score of 75 points. I cannot remember a better score in the league. In a superb display he failed in only one of the six matches to finish in the points.
Mick Potter was also very consistent, amassing 62 points for second place, a score that would be more than enough for victory in most years.
Despite gale force winds lashing the Oaks complex on Sunday weights were still well spread around the 64-field on Cedar Lake.
Dave Pimlott (MAP Elton) led from peg 30, where he fished pellet across and to the aerator for 37lb 6oz of carp to 2lb.
Chris Hall (Oaks) was drawn at 76, where he had small fish to a pound on pellet down the track for his 33lb 4oz.
Others: Terry Kenney (Oaks) 30-12-0; Gary Pawlett (Oaks) 28-12-0; Kevin Garside (Bob.Co) and Sean Walker (Quaker Tackle) both 25-12-0.
Lee Blythe (Northallerton) topped the Saturday open match at Woodlands, from peg 15 on Swallow. Taking advantage of the corner peg he offered bomb and corn to the gap in the islands for a 53lb 2oz bag of carp, skimmers and tench.
Colin Owen (Walton AC) was over on Kestrel 4, where he alternated maggot and corn on the bomb for a mixed bag of 40lb 13oz.
Others: Ken Gollightly (MAP Elton) 37-1-0; Darryl Taylor (Daiwa Goldthorpe) 27-1-0; Graham Toohey (Morley) and Harry England (Elton Tackle) both 26-10-0.
Andy Geldart (Colmic Ossett) won his second successive Sunday open match. After missing out on points in last week's 47-entry event he got the final points he needed for the Kamasan final by winning the 72-peg contest.
Drawn at Wagtail 14 he took 43lb of carp on a small maggot feeder from open water on the unfancied peg.
John McGarell (MAP Elton) was second from Mallard 4 for the second time in as many weeks. After taking six carp on a maggot feeder he switched to pole and maggot for skimmers and tench and roach to boost his net to 41lb 2oz.
Others: Dave Armitage (Bob.Co) 29-6-0; Stuart Blackwell (Goldthorpe AC) 28-6-0; Pete Riley (Elton Tackle) 27-2-0; Ken Shelley (South Leeds Cons.) 25-4-0
The JT Rogers series at Raker Lakes got off to a fine start with Wayne Nolan winning with 94lb 9oz from peg 21. Fishing corn at 18 metres he netted carp to 8lb.
At fancied peg 22 Gareth Sellars was hampered by the strong winds and had to be content with a carp net of 57lb 8oz taken down the middle.
