MY wife and I were in York last week, and were most interested to observe the concern over the fate of the York Odeon.
Although we live in Sussex, Jean was brought up in Acomb, and in December 1959, I came freshly demobbed from my National Service in the Army to visit her from London. A highlight of the visit was a trip to the Odeon to see Jacques Tati's film Mon Oncle.
You will no doubt be fielding many earnest letters about the Odeon. In a lighter vein, for us old romantics (we got married finally 43 years after our York encounter - a marriage each and five children later), the concept of "our" cinema not being there would be sad indeed.
Save the Odeon indeed! And let's have a Jacques Tati season, perhaps. We promise to come up for it...

...TO quote from the Odeon website: "With the new ownership in place Odeon remains well placed to proactively optimise any future market developments and ensure that it retains and builds on its strong brand leadership position. For further details about Odeon Ltd and our exciting plans for the future, please contact us by email on: info@odeonuk.com"
As this is an obvious invitation, can I suggest that anyone interested in the future of York's Odeon Cinema follow the instructions and send an email asking what the plans for the site are?

Huntington Road,
York.
