BUSINESSES in Yorkshire need to create up to 3,000 new jobs every quarter to compensate for failing companies, according to a new survey.
Professional services firm Deloitte says company insolvencies cost the region between 2,000 and 3,000 jobs in the second and third quarters of 2003.
Angus Martin, from the Leeds office of Deloitte, said: "In each of the second and third quarters last year, we estimate the region suffered about 2,000 to 3,000 job losses due to insolvencies.
"While this fell to 1,500 job losses in the last quarter, job creation on this scale remains an enormous challenge and, inevitably, the brunt of the burden is going to fall on the private sector."
