DON'T bypass Passers-By, Tim Morrison's solo exhibition of paintings, pastels and woodcuts at Adze Gallery, Gillygate, York.
Based on pencil drawings done from observation in central York, this new series seeks to capture feelings of chaos, collisions and near-meeting points. "People in the street form a random parade which seems to be impersonal but within which there are all sorts of potential relationships, from the merely spatial to the more complex and emotional," says Morrison.
"I would like these paintings to evoke memory, reality and fantasy. I am interested in how clothes are a sort of uniform, and how people can be transformed and protected by them."
Originally from London, Morrison works from a rural studio near York and his work has been represented permanently at Adze since 2001.
Gallery curator David Durham says: "Tim's expressive observations on city living and human dynamics have gained an avid following among private, public and corporate collectors."
Morrison's work is on show and for sale at £300 to £1,500 until March 27; the gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 5pm. Admission is free.
