YORK'S latest matches in the Yorkshire Chess Leagues ended with two wins and a loss.
In division one, the 'A' team continue to set the pace at the top of table after beating Sheffield 'B' 5-2. Wins came from Paul Townsend, Detlef Plump, David Adams, Tim Turner and Tony Slinger. Alex Combie added a draw.
York are two points clear after Hull 'A' were surprisingly beaten 5-3 at Bradford Central.
The York 'C' would have gone top of division two had they beaten Alwoodley, but lost 3-4. Martin Carpenter, Steve Huxley and Herbert Lockwood provided the wins, Owen Robson drew. The 'B' team didn't have a game.
The best result of the day was achieved by the 'D' team, who beat promotion-chasing Dewsbury 4-3 to earn only their second win all season.
Victories were achieved by James Carpenter, Arron Barker, and Sri Sriharan. The draws were made by Ewan Cameron, Norman Andrews, and Graham Marshall.
An alternative fun chess day is being held at the Railway Institute, Queen Street on Sunday (10am). The day consists of playing variants of chess, with usually a round of doubles as well, and everyone who enters wins a prize of some description. The cost is £4 and includes a buffet lunch.
