IT will be unfortunate if the evening economy suffers as a result of the increased parking charges in York.
I am a member of several local groups all of which meet in the evenings through the week. Some of these groups are concerned it will be too expensive to meet in the city centre.
As one door closes another opens, so I would suggest that any pub, club or church hall with a meeting room or rooms, and with car parking available, makes themselves known to local groups, who will be only too willing to move their meetings.
We often hear that working men's clubs need more income. This may be their chance. Pubs the size of the Winning Post on Bishopthorpe Road, I should imagine, have space available, maybe hotels as well. There will be no shortage of groups looking for venues.
