A RECORD number of passengers passed through Leeds Bradford International Airport last month.
Passenger numbers increased by 35 per cent to 143,290 during February, and the year to date is showing an increase of 30.8 per cent over the first two months of last year.
The figures conform that Leeds Bradford continues to be one of the fastest growing airports in the UK, having expanded by 32 per cent in 2003, when it exceeded the two million passenger mark for the year.
A major boost came from Yorkshire's low-fare airline Jet2.com, which completed its first full year of operations in February and carried 42,430 passengers to nine destinations. The total number of passengers flying on "no frills" airlines (Jet2.com, Ryanair and FlyBE) from Leeds Bradford during the month was 71,022, some 50 per cent of the total traffic.
Ed Anderson, managing director of the airport said: "We are now looking forward to the start of operations to our new destinations of Murcia and Venice, due to start in April with Jet2.com."
