TODAY we begin an exciting new initiative.
Yesterday Once More has teamed up with the York Reference Library to bring you a selection of photographs from its archive. Many of these pictures are rare and haven't been seen since technology moved on from days of glass plate negatives.
They are now getting another airing thanks to the Internet. Thousands of photographs have been scanned by Yvette Turnbull and her team at the library, and these can be viewed at www.imagineyork.co.uk. The project, set up with £129,000 from the National Lottery's New Opportunities Fund, is a wonderful boon for historians and residents alike.
Each week we will publish a few pictures from the Internet archive showing how York has changed down the years.
This week, Yvette has chosen a selection to demonstrate the breadth of material on www.imagineyork.co.uk
