ONCE again precious police resources are wasted cracking down on road tax dodgers (March 2).

Every car has a log book with the name and address of the owner which is all recorded at the DVLA. So surely it is only a matter of cross reference by the pen-pushers at DVLA with the Post Office who issue the discs to come up with a dodger - hardly rocket science.

I do not know why common sense does not prevail at Government level and at a stroke put millions of lost pounds into road transport simply by putting the tax on to petrol.

This would also reap extra revenue from tourists who at present pay nothing to drive on British roads, unlike when we are on the Continent.

Also the insurance and MOT need sorting simply by displaying a disc in the windscreen, which I believe has been the norm in Canada for years.
