CONGESTION and delays are expected to affect York motorists as repair work is carried out on a bridge on the A64.
Traffic jams hit the city yesterday as parts of the eastbound carriageway on the A64 were reduced to one lane. A spokesman for AA Roadwatch said the work had caused some big delays during the daytime and they were closely monitoring the situation.
City of York Council's transport chiefs have warned the delays are likely to continue while the Highways Agency carries out the work on the Ouse Bridge, near Fulford, York.
Peter Evely, head of network management at the council, said: "The Highways Agency have assured us that the work will be completed as quickly as possible but until it is, motorists may experience some delays."
