York Acorn Ladies put in a creditable performance in their Challenge Plate semi-final against Castleford, and the 34-0 reverse did not reflect their efforts.
Sasha Hilton, Yvette Shephard, Bev Langan, Helen Stead and player of the match Toyah Palmer took the ball up well and with the experience of Gill Blackburn directing the forwards they matched the Castleford pack for much of the game.
Half-backs Donna Parker and Kay Rollinson and the back line also created chances but they were unable to capitalise against a well-organised defence.
It was 14-0 at half-time and, as Acorn tired after the break, Cas racked up a flattering scoreline.
Acorn's best chance came in the second half when, with Cas stret-ched, Kay Rollinson kicked to the corner but her team-mates could not collect the ball with a certain try looming.
