FOLLOWING the letters querying ways of improving York's traffic congestion in the Holgate/Poppleton Road area (February 9), I want to forewarn A59-users that a third major problem along Boroughbridge Road is about to be made, adding more delays on this route.

From the former site of Donnelley's printers a new single access point is soon to be created, coping with traffic from at least 270 homes, midway between the Ainsty pub and the BP garage.

The traffic is to be controlled by another set of traffic lights, with a bus stop sited midway.

How will residents living on this stretch of road have safe, and easy, access to their homes? Even Cranbrook Road residents will now face more problems and, no doubt, have to detour around Almsford Road and spend more time trying to get on to busy Carr Lane.

From our objections to this proposal in October 2002 and August 2003, the staff from the council's traffic department - not the party leaders of the day - explained that another set of lights would not be positioned at the present exit road from Ouseacres. But they assured us a second set of lights, positioned within 100 metres of each other, would work.

Be warned future residents of Sovereign Park, your sole entry/exit road narrows on the double bend and any traffic delayed at, or parked at, this point will severely limit access, including that of the emergency services.

S A Clark,

Boroughbridge Road,

York.
