With the Ouse low, cold and clear many of the 101 anglers struggled in Sunday's open match on the Leeds amalgamation water from Dunsforth to Thorpe Underwood.

The area at the bottom of Linton was once again favoured, with Mick Scott (Waterline Wibsey) scoring an easy win from peg 294 and picking up nearly £400 in the process.

Fishing pole and maggot at 10 metres he netted a 7lb 2oz mixture of small roach and dace.

Kev Richmond (Maver Barnsley) was in the same area, at 288, where he alternated pole and long rod with maggot for an all roach 3lb 12oz to beat of the challenge of Tony Stevenson (Anglers World York), who bagged 3-4-0 from 293.

Others: Jez Livsey (Middy Dons) 3-3-8, Ron Hughes (Middy Dons) 2-7-0 and Keith Lancaster (Glen) 2-5-0.

Pegs at the bottom of the Linton section dominated Saturday's 77-entry open match on the Ouse between Hunters Lodge and Linton.

John Dunhill (Maver Barnsley) continued the good run of the Barnsley squad by winning from peg 293. Fishing long rod with a big stick and maggot he had around 50 roach plus a 1lb perch for his 8lb 1oz.

Tadcaster-based river veteran Stan Haigh (Anglers World York) was at 286, where he adopted a similar approach for his all roach net of 7lb 14oz.

Others: Eddie Bridon (Shimano Quaker Match Group) 7-6-0, Tony Webster (Hirst Tackle) 7-2-0, Geoff Keech (Yarm) 5-13-0 and Ron Wilkinson (Newman Scotts) 5-12-0.

Danny Scott struck again at Raker Lakes on Sunday, topping the open match on Horseshoe Lake with a level 41lb. Offering pole and pellet at 14 metres from peg 16 he netted carp to 4lb.

Match organiser Paul Kozyra was second from favoured peg 22. The wind prevented the usual far-bank attack so he opted for pellets at seven metres for this all carp 25lb 7oz.

Sunday's Tadcaster open match at Smaws Ings proved was one of contrasts.

Winner Ron Purdy had a hectic afternoon at the 'armchair' peg, whipping out 10lb 10oz of small dace fishing in mid-water with waggler and maggot.

The only other anglers to catch anything were Steve Grainger, with 1lb 1oz, and Alistair Wilkes, with a mere 4oz.

Only the strongest could battle the elements and hang onto a long pole in Sunday's gale-lashed 80-peg sell-out match on Cedar Lake at the Oaks.

Mark Calvert (MAP Elton) made the most of his physical prowess to tackle the far-bank as well as the middle of peg 43. Offering maggot over pellet he winkled out 25lb 6oz of small carp to a pound.

Terry Kenney (Oaks) was on peg 36 where he opted to stick down the middle with pellets for his small carp net of 22lb 5oz.

Others: Andy Middleton (Oaks) 21-10-0, Alan Sharman (MAP Elton) 20-0-0, Darren Bridge (MAP Elton) 18-6-0 and Ken Dixon (Bradford) 18-0-0.
