I WOULD like to thank all the readers who supported the UNICEF/Evening Press Children of Iran earthquake appeal. The total raised was £3,965. This wonderful sum will make a great difference to some of the thousands of children whose lives have been so severely impacted by this tragedy.
The United Nation's Children's Fund was able to respond immediately after the earthquake struck on December 26, sending in essential drugs and water tanks as well as shelter materials. UNICEF also provided thousands of winter boots, clothes and blankets to protect children against the freezing night time temperatures.
While the physical needs of Bam's surviving children are clear, the emotional impact of this disaster is also visible. An estimated 2,500 children lost both parents in the earthquake, while another 5,000 lost one parent. Your kind donations are helping UNICEF to provide counselling for these children.
On behalf of the surviving children of Bam and from everyone at UNICEF, thank you.

Executive Director UNICEF UK,
