THANKS to the decision of the planning and transport advisory panel (Evening Press, February 5), we are a step closer to putting accident prevention measures on the A19 at Skelton.
However, at the November meeting Alistair Briggs stated that to implement the measures determined by the committee would cost £2,500. Now he is reported as saying 'the legal costs' would be that much.
How come? City Of York Concil has a legal department staffed by salaried personnel, so where do these costs come from?
As for the police saying a new speed limit would be 'difficult to enforce', if it says 40mph and a motorist is going faster than that, you nick him and that's all there is to it.
Lastly, thanks to the Press for all the support we have had over the past four and a half years on this issue.
Phill Thomas,
Brecksfields,
Skelton, York.
