THE rat problem in York has been caused by inadequate pest control by the council and water authorities over several years.
Why should council tax payers be charged £25 for reporting rat infestations or sightings (February 19)? Why are rats not included in the much-trumpeted York Pride scheme?
Graffiti and fly posting is free; rats are £25. Rats are far more dangerous than graffiti or posters. Why should I pay £25 for reporting rats which have come from someone else's property?
The result of all this is that we shall have more rats, a decline in public health, more frustration and more anger about increased council tax charges which include fewer services.
