The hard work in getting Heworth 'A' back on the field has paid off with their first win in three games since reforming.
The team had to cancel fixtures before Christmas due to a lack of numbers but took to the field again earlier this month thanks to the efforts of player-coach Chris Brown and ex-Great Britain international David Watkinson.
And after two heartening performances in defeat, they enjoyed a 16-10 win over Eastmoor 'A'.
Eastmoor dominated the first 20 minutes and looked comfortable at 10-0 ahead but Heworth established a pattern and it was no surprise when Lee Clarke forced his way over, Mark Watkinson goaling, before Ashley Wanlon crossed out wide to equalise on the cusp of half-time.
Eastmoor started the second half on top but Heworth gained confidence and after several near misses were rewarded when Neil Atkinson stormed over, Watkinson goaling.
The Villagers, with Mark Green, Nigel Wilson, Kevin Gott and Graham Brown impressive, held the upper hand, though they still needed to be on their mettle to repel the visitors' breaks and secure a fine win.
