I note with some concern G Bond's request (Letters, February 17) that scarce funding should be diverted to traffic calming measures along Wigginton Road so he or she may "hack" again.

I thought the road, funded by vehicle road tax payers, should be designed to allow vehicles to move efficiently and safely to boost the economic prosperity of the region. Bottlenecks and congestion caused by speed reduction measures and under-investment in road infrastructure cost the UK dearly in lost output each year.

I have nothing against horses or riders, but until there is a 'horse road tax', vehicles should get priority
