Alex Lloyd finds a funky way to wind up the weekend.
WE all know the weekend just doesn't last long enough. All too often you find yourself slumped into front of Antiques Roadshow wondering where the past 48 hours went.
If you want to avoid that sinking Sunday feeling and ensure the weekend finishes with a bang, Orgasmic, as the name suggests, is the ideal destination.
Thank Funk It's Sunday is a new house night determined to keep things upbeat while the rest of the city is winding down, preparing for Monday morning.
Promoters Matt Todd and Paul Casperton have taken their inspiration from the bar scene in Leeds, where a DJ playing decent tunes in the corner is as common as tables and chairs.
This is the pair's first venture together after they became tired of having to travel away from such a great city in order to have a decent night out.
Matt explains: "We frequently go to Leeds because there is nowhere in York that has seems to have DJs on a regular basis. York just lags five years behind everywhere else."
They stumbled across Orgasmic before Christmas, decided it would be a classy venue in which to create their kind of vibe, and Thank Funk It's Sunday is now in its sixth week.
Drinkers who head down to Orgasmic can look forward to the funky house sounds of DJs Andy James, who already has several residencies in Leeds, and Adam Jackson, along with Nineties house from DJ Karl Todd.
Matt says: "It's getting progressively busier. This last week was very encouraging.
"The night is about keeping the weekend going. It is the sort of music that really makes you want to dance."
They are particularly looking forward to the summer when the warm weather will allow drinkers to sit out on the terrace overlooking the Ouse, listening to a DJ into the small hours.
As Paul nicely sums up their philosophy: "We want to make Orgasmic a destination rather than a pass through place."
