YORK MP Hugh Bayley backed the Government in its illegal attack on Iraq, which continues to result in the deaths of scores of innocent civilians.
He also supported the introduction of university tuition fees, although he received grant-aid at university.
Now he is backing the building of 540 houses at Derwenthorpe, against the wishes of hundreds of his constituents ('MP's praise for city homes plan', February 13).
I see that one third of these homes are to be affordable housing. If Mr Bayley kept to his socialist principles, and the Rowntree Foundation kept to Joseph Rowntree's Quaker principles, all the houses would be affordable. Are they to be only for the well-heeled, as they are at Hartrigg Oaks retirement development?
On the subject of Rowntree, a letter (February 11) highlighted the disgusting condition of the park bearing his name, because of goose droppings.
In an effort to deflect criticism from its excessive council tax demand, the council is offering travel concessions to pensioners. Why not offer them a plucked and dressed goose as well? We are already being stuffed by the council and the Police Authority.
