Folk singer Bob Fox has come up with a canny selection of songs old and new.
His version of Dance To Your Daddy, the theme tune of the hit TV series When The Boat Comes In, proves simplicity is a virtue. Fox tugs at the heart-strings with thoughtful covers of She Waits And Weeps - Vin Garbutt's song about the North Sea Piper Alpha disaster in 1986 - and The Last Of The Widows, Jez Lowe's homage to victims of an explosion at Easington Colliery in 1951, which features Fox on piano rather than his usual guitar.
Fox maintains the emotion with Peppers And Tomatoes, Ralph McTell's indictment of ethnic cleansing in former Yugoslavia. Enlisting guest musicians, Fox's clever arrangements incorporate guitar, bouzouki, piano, accordion, muted trumpet, whistles, flutes, viola and double bass. The proud granddad from the North East is singing as well as ever.
