Comic book superheroes, children's storybook characters and TV celebrities filled the streets of York as part of this year's student Rag parade.
More than 200 University of York students raised more than £1,000 as they paraded through the city dressed as their childhood icons, at the launch of their annual fundraising extravaganza.
The Lord Mayor of York, Councillor Charles Hall, led the procession in his limousine. Money raised from the event will go to his charities, Sightsavers International and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Organiser Micky Armstrong said volunteers were still counting change collected, but the final total was expected to be more than £1,000.
He said: "I'm very happy that it all passed successfully and safely despite the drizzle. It was good to see so many people enjoying themselves and we got great public support."
Other highlights of York Rag Week will include a karaoke competition; speed-dating; a "blagathon", to try and persuade businesses to provide services and goods for free; and a Big Brother-style event.
