ANY motorist who does not see the many warning signs for Stonebow's rising bollard should not be driving, where it fails is that cars just go down St Saviourgate then into Coppergate.

I have lost count of how many cars do this while I am at the taxi rank.

I should like to know who should be handing out the fixed penalty fines because nobody seems to be enforcing the law.

This is why York is clogged up with cars all day. On Saturday, I saw six cars go down Blake Street while I was waiting at the lights, which again is flouting the law because it was 2.30pm. There is a large enough sign explaining the pedestrian scheme, but it is just being ignored.

I should like to offer my services to the council on a part-time basis at £5 a car, the rest going to the council. Then they wouldn't have to put up parking charges because we would all make a fortune.
