BLIND Spot have hit the spot in Round One Heat Two of the Fibbers/Evening Press Battle of the Bands 2004, securing victory over second-placed Eyesore on Tuesday in York. Side A and Losing Streak took part too.

Next week, Heat Three sends This Way Up into battle against 23 Beasts, New Legends and Seven Shades on Tuesday at Fibbers. Doors open at 7.30pm; entry is first come, first in, and admission is £3.

Tonight at Fibbers, BBC Radio 1 Rock Show and Metal Hammer magazine favourites Beyond All Reason top the bill, with support from Future Ex-Wife and ...her Theory. "This melodic metal four-piece combine raw screaming/singing vocals with heavy down-tuned driving guitars and are best described as Thrice meets Glassjaw meets Thursday," says Fibbers boss Tim Hornsby.

On Sunday, The Carling Sessions present The Barbs, The Rocks and Special Needs. "The Barbs are a quartet as effervescent as they are cheeky, like Ikara Colt have gone and got themselves a suntan, dispensed with the anger, and written some radio-friendly driving tunes," says Tim.

On Wednesday, York Overseas Students Association hosts the Planet Bollywood night with DJ Manny. "Planet Bollywood features all your favourite Bollywood anthems, as well as the latest in Bhangra-inspired dance beats," says Tim. "Leading the procession will be Leeds darling DJ Manny, supported by York's favourite Mantra DJs."

Thursday's headliners, Sluts Of Trust, are the latest gem of an indie rock band to come out of the Glasgow underground rock scene. "They're continuing to make waves outside of their home town, and rightly so. John McFarlane's lyrics sing tales of his unusual sexual escapades while backing them up with exquisite scuzzy guitar," says Tim.
