DEDICATED workers are being sought for this year's tourism Oscars in York.
Nominations are needed for the city's Awards For Excellence, which reward staff's effort and hard work within the tourism industry.
The winners will receive their awards at a glitzy ceremony at York Racecourse on March 29. The ceremony is the largest tourism industry event in the city and last year was attended by 350 people.
This year there will be an extra prize, the Evening Press Customer Care Award, to celebrate workers who excel in customer service. The award can be nominated by members of the public, employers and colleagues.
Run by York Hospitality Association, the awards are open to all tourism and hospitality-based businesses in York.
Association secretary Michael Hjort said: "We are searching for the best staff, the brightest students and the most noteworthy employer within the York Tourism Industry."
There are eight employee of the year awards, nominated by employers, including best receptionist, housekeeping employee, restaurant/bar staff, chef/kitchen assistant and supervisor or department manager.
The Person Friday award is designed for staff with more than one role, while staff not covered in the other categories could win best tourism employee.
A new award has been created this year for staff involved in sales, administration and reservations.
Staff can turn the tables and nominate their bosses for the prestigious Employer of the Year award.
Outstanding trainees, who are working towards an NVQ in the tourism and hospitality sectors, can be put forward for the Trainee of the Year Award by tutors or employers.
Finally the Student of the Year Award is open exclusively to the catering department of York College with nominations made by selected tutors.
