S DUNHILL rightly draws attention to the problems on the A1237 Northern ring road (Letters, February 6), yet we should remember these problems vary in different locations.
The Haxby area certainly suffers from congestion while the Woodthorpe end must cope with speeding and poor junctions. Other roads on the north side of York are also affected.
We have promised that, during the forthcoming local transport plan consultation, we shall review all the problems associated with this important road and seek solutions.
While we have been successful in reducing accidents on suburban roads, an important part of that process will be to look once again at the speed management plan.
We all know that the faster the vehicle speeds the more serious the accident and there are still far too many people killed or seriously injured on York roads.
Reviewing the way we manage the road network will help ensure any measures we use will be effective in reducing the misery accidents cause as well as reducing the cost to society.
