I WRITE regarding the ongoing renovations of York's Rowntree Park and the surrounding area.
While the improvements look very nice, I see no point in spending money on something which is still not being utilised. During my recent visits to the park the only people I saw were truanting, smoking schoolchildren.
The only other obvious inhabitants were the geese. The state of the grass and pond area is disgraceful because of the amount of geese faeces. It is impossible to avoid them.
As a family, the park was somewhere we could spend hours in open space to run, picnic and play. The unhygienic and often vicious nature of the geese has totally ruined this. The beautifully maintained bowling greens have even been taken over by these birds.
It's a shame, but is there really any point in continuing this expenditure?
