THE first-ever basketball tournament for York primary schools is taking place tomorrow at Oaklands School.
Three schools will go head-to-head in the tournament, which has been organised by York Vikings basketball club.
Coaches from the club have been leading training sessions at Acomb, Carr and Woodthorpe schools, and the event will be the first chance for the new players to pit their wits against other teams.
Meanwhile, school tennis teams are being urged to get their entries in now for the York State Schools' summer leagues.
Teams will compete in year eight, year nine or year ten leagues with four players in each age group.
Matches will be made up of doubles, with each pair playing each other pair in the group over one set made up of eight games.
There will also be individual and combined age group winners.
Entry forms should be returned to Wayne Isherwood at Sherburn High School by March 5.
