JOHN Quantock hit a maximum on his way to a terrific 13-darter for Phoenix in York Phoenix Open Darts League division one.

Well-backed by a 117 finish from Phil Good, Phoenix went on to record a 7-2 win over Howden, whose Mick Harris hit the tons and Steve Burton gamed on 113. The win keeps Phoenix in contention for the title after the top two both suffered defeats.

Rich Corner (21) and Ally Wray with a splendid 17-darter gave Bay Horse the edge before Slipper hit back through Pete Turnbull (19) to lead 4-2 after the singles. Bay levelled, then Turnbull-Russ Turpin took the all-important last leg and the win.

However, good scores from Kev O'Hara and Paul Cooper saved the aggregate.

Greyhound lost the first four games at Volunteer before Stu Limbert and Mark Blundell got them on the scoresheet.

Paul Botterill-Mike Harris secured the win, but Greyhound salvaged the aggregate in the last pairs.

Mitre had a 6-3 win over Huntington 'B' which saw John Pickering hit a bull finish for 21 darts.

In division two, Huntington 'A' had Dave Brigham out in 21 to take the aggregate point, but Woodman took the win in the last pairs through Tess Rolls-Tony Raymond.

Division three leaders Locomotive scored an emphatic 7-2 win against Clarence WMC against whom Loco's Mark Thornton did well and Geoff Holmes notched a maximum.

Bob Rochester (101 finish) gave Reindeer the perfect start at second-placed Yearsley before going on to take the match 7-2.

Meanwhile, Andy Manns was Bishopthorpe's only winner as they went down to Crown whose Danny White stood out.

Clubs and officials are reminded that if result sheets are not in to the league secretary by noon Monday following the match, both teams will lose any points gained.

Heath Scaife opened with a 180 for a fantastic 13 darts in York John Smith's Men's League division one.

Well-supported by Mick Willsden (20), Shepherd shot into a 2-0 lead, but only claimed the aggregate point as Poacher stormed back with good wins from Ray McInally, Lea Brundrett and Mark Gale-Shaun Day to take the match 5-4.

Mark Hartley (18), John Mooring (19) and Dave Mason led Cygnet 'A' to a 9-0 whitewash of Saddle. Chris Thompson (21), Tony Cooper (21), the latter then hitting a 120-finish for 24 while partnering Thompson, gave Sun 'A' the same result at Slip 'B'.

Martyn Turner (21), Paul Innes (180) and Martin Waddington pushed Clifton 'A' to a 6-3 win over Rose and Crown who had Mick Addinall playing well.

Kelvyn Frankel (20), Bob Lee (bull finish) and Ron Simpson stood out as Bay Horse outpaced Blacksmith's 8-1.

A good win from Paul Calpin was to no avail as Flag 'A' lost 5-4 at Dringhouses with Brian Smith-Derek Bell taking the decider.

Barry Noble (19), Neil Hart (20) and Anthony Baxter led Clifton 'B' to a 7-2 win at Flag 'B' to keep them hot on the heels of division two leaders Swan, who won 7-2 at Green Tree'A' after a 110 finish for 18 from Ged McMahon.

Groves had a good 5-4 win at Osbaldwick who, with Steve Machean, saved the extra point.

A good win from Pete Ella was the highlight for Slip 'A' as they beat Old Ebor 6-3.

Dave Endeacott and match-winner Steve Thompson gave Cue Ball the points within the singles as Holgate took all the pairs. A big win from Mick Brookes-Derek Hudson just failed to take a point.

Pete Watson hit the tons as Institute beat Sun 'B' 8-1.
