York Indoor Bowls Club hosted the Yorkshire Ladies versus English Women's Indoor Bowling Association President's team match which ended in a 125-108 aggregate victory for the visitors.

Yorkshire President Helen Walker's rink were playing against the EWIBA President's Clare Beahan's team and had the biggest home win. After coming back from 17-6 down she won the last three ends to take the game 21-17.

Thornaby's Judy Frosdick joined with York's Betty Richardson and New Earswick's Pat Walker, who scored singles on the last two ends to win a close game 19-18. Similarly Melanie Brooke's rink also scored a single on the last end for 20-18 win.

The all-York rink of Anita Haw, Maureen Walker, Sue Kirkpatrick and Joyce Chelin dropped 12 shots over the last four ends to lose 27-14, but the visitors had the advantage of local knowledge with Chris Sissons and England International Michelle Mooring in their team.

Margaret Moss, and Trish Stevens nearly pulled off a draw in their game but just went down 18-17, while the usually consistent Carol Instone, joined with Gill Clark and Linda Parker, dropped a seven on 13th .

Meanwhile, York's Ladies moved into third place in the North Eastern League after they beat leaders Hornsea 86-65 on aggregate picking up six points.

At home, Joyce Gee, Doreen Arnett, Sylvia Walker and Pat Ellis got away to a good start leading 22-4 after 12 ends. They kept the momentum going to win 31-8.

Brenda Martin, Clarice Johnston, Sue Jeffrey and Ann Sharpley also had a relatively one-sided game to triumph 26-12.

Away from home, Margaret Smith, Irene Paylor, Carrol Pink and Pat Lofthouse led 12-9 with five ends to play. But they then lost four of them and eventually the game too at 19-13.

Pat Bracken, Maureen Robinson, Margaret Broughton and Maureen Wallace were tied at 9-9 after 11 ends but lost the game over the following four ends, where they dropped 13 shots without reply, the final score being 26-16.

In the same league, New Earswick disappointingly lost 73-62 to Doncaster with the only winning rink coming from Lys Jerrum, Kath Sykes, Barbara Brigham and Kath Hardcastle. They won the last two ends scoring nine shots to win 24-15.

The other home rink of Peggy Walker, Diane Hardy, June Barker and Margaret Blows lost 16-12.

On the away front, Margaret Moss, Gill Clark, Maureen Wood and Pat Lancaster had come back from being 11-3 down after nine ends to within two shots after four winning ends. But the home side pulled away again winning five of the next seven ends to take the game 19-16.

The other rink of Maureen Wood, Maureen Cooper, Audrey Shingles and Pat Storey lost six of the last seven ends after being only 10-9 down to lose 23-10.

York's second division team picked up a valuable 76-71 aggregate win against challengers Harrogate in the Yorkshire Over 55's League.

The home leg played a week earlier had seen York go down by the odd shot while the away teams both won.

Geoff Oglesby, John Berridge, Ernie Elvidge and Charlie Arnett came from 10-1 down to win 24-20, while Tony Bryan, Ian Teasdale and Peter Czarnobaj came from 10-4 down to lead 20-11 with three ends to play, the final score being 20-18.

York remain top of the league with two games to play.
