THE correspondence regarding the Hutton Report is confusing two issues.

Andrew Gilligan, by his own admission, was not accurate. He said he got it mostly right.

Would anybody fly in an aeroplane if the pilot got it right six times out of ten?

With news reports of such gravity it is important that it is completely accurate. With this report it put greater pressure on Dr Kelly because Andrew Gilligan said the source told him. Dr. Kelly denied he had.

We rely on news reports to make valid judgements therefore we must be able to trust reporters. We probably trust the BBC more than other news media so the controllers should have thoroughly checked Gilligan's assertions.

Whether we should have invaded Iraq is a separate issue - I believe we should not.
