Four left in title stakes
THE semi-finalists have been decided in the York Unique-Phoenix Darts League Pairs Competition.
The last four pairs are: Chris Thompson and Tony Cooper (Sun Inn), Dave Binks and Nick Harteveld (Hospital Social Club 'A'), Pete Leake and Dave Mason (Cygnet 'A') and Dave Gibbons and Kev Walton (Sun Inn).
Gibbons and Walton's road to the semi-finals saw them defeat Hospital Social Club 'A' team's John Quantock and John Smith 2-0 after taking out Tom Hair and Keith Elliott (Blacksmith's Arms) and Paul Cooper and Ian Hartley (Cygnet 'B').
Leake and Mason were in outstanding form as they peppered the treble 20.
After defeating Cygnet colleagues Kev O'Hara and Ally Wray, and then Mal Davey and James Allen (Alice Hawthorn), Leake and Mason knocked out Tony Raymond and Arthur Conyers (Bishopthorpe SC) in a pulsating match to set up the board final against Mark Hartley and Col Rowntree (Phoenix 'A') which the Cygnet pair won 2-0.
Harteveld and Binks defeated their Hospital Social Club team colleagues Daz Bailey and Phil Good to book their semi-final place. Earlier, Harteveld and Binks knocked out the holders, Andy Morton and Martin Cooper (Acomb).
The last semi-final place went to Cooper and Thompson, who beat Acomb's Stu Morton and Mike Harris in the board final.
A 106 finish by Thompson closed a 21 dart leg and this was backed by a maximum from Thompson in a 24 dart leg for a 2-0 win.
Cooper and Thompson put out the Phoenix pair of Sean and Paul Robinson 2-0 after having beaten Ged McMahon (180) and Andy Carruthers (Rose & Crown) 2-0 in which Thompson notched a maximum.
All players involved in the division one individual competition preliminary round should note that all preliminary matches have to be played by Wednesday, February 11, and not February 12.
