A well-known Wilberfoss hotel and steak restaurant is under new ownership.
Maggie Cottam, proprietor of Jenny's Kitchen, in Walmgate, has bought The Steer Inn in Hull Road, Wilberfoss for an undisclosed sum, although the 14-bedroom hotel and licensed restaurant was on the market for £750,000. Previous owners were Kevin and Charlotte Booth.
Mrs Cottam will run The Steer Inn with her husband, Dennis, eldest son, James and his chartered accountant wife, Maria. Along with younger son, Matt, a marketing executive.
For three years Maggie and Dennis were proprietors of the 11-room Westgate Hotel on The Mount, which they sold two years ago when both felt it was time to retire, but they could not resist taking on Jenny's Kitchen and The Steer Inn confirmed that they found it hard to get the hotel and catering industry out of their system.
"It's hard to know when we will retire," laughed Maggie.
