THE girls are back in town tomorrow when Pocklington RUFC's Percy Road ground hosts a game between Cambridge University Women and Leeds Metropolitan University at 12.15, ahead of the senior XV match.
The Cambridge girls will be making their seventh annual trip to Pocklington.
After previously touring to different parts of the UK and ending disappointed by the hospitality, they came to Pocklington, were overwhelmed by the welcome and have been returning every December since.
Once again, Pocklington Vice-President Godfrey Bloom, who now sponsors Cambridge through his TBO business, will be making sure that they are well looked after. And the entertainment will include a jazz band playing after the match at 6pm - free admission, everyone welcome.
The Cambridge girls strengthened by a group of former students, will again be in action against Leeds opposition on Sunday, once more kicking off at 12.15pm.
Meanwhile, old Pocklingtonion Robert Horner, president of the Rugby Football Union, dropped in to watch his old school pull off a narrow win at Durham.
With the wind behind them Pocklington were only 5-0 ahead at half-time after captain and
England Schools' international Rob Webber crashed over from a lineout for a try in the corner.
It was well into the second half before Durham hauled themselves in front with a converted try but with only three minutes remaining Stephen Fenn kicked a penalty to give Pocklington a narrow 8-7 win.
Horner, who had just returned from eight hectic World Cup weeks in Australia, found the time to talk to the players and coaches.
Andrew Towner and Garry Binks, Pocklington's coaches have been invited to the Guildhall in London to attend the president's annual reception for English rugby and to meet England coach Clive Woodward and some of his victorious team.
