In response to David Aked's letter (November 8) about signs at Grimston Bar, is the problem of the long queues not more fundamental than additional signs, while I agree they would help?
Most traffic leaving York at Grimston Bar is heading to Leeds, Elvington and the A1079 and all this traffic is funnelled into one lane, hence drivers' frustration and the queue-jumping that goes on towards the lights.
Apply logic and make the roundabout safer from the inside overtakers and make the left-hand lane Scarborough A64, Stamford Bridge A166 and A1079 and the right-hand lane Elvington and Leeds A64, thereby evening up the flow.
The council does everything to get tourists into the Park & Ride smoothly, but making them queue to get out of York does not seem to be aimed at speeding their return to York.
I should have thought they would be bringing pressure on to the Highways Authority to alter the junction.
