IT is nice to see that an England team (Rugby Union), is capable of winning World Championships, but the Evening Press leader and TKO columns of last Monday and Tuesday are factually incorrect.
They say that this is the first time since 1966 that an England
team has won a world championship.
In fact, the angling team representing England (from up to 39 other countries), has won eight world championships (1985/7/8/91/94/98/99 and 2001), and provided no less that 14 individual world champions, two of whom have won the title on four separate occasions.
The ladies' team has also been equally successful.
It is very disappointing to note that little recognition has been given to these sportsmen and women by the BBC sports departments.
