PHONE company BT has gone local with a new one-stop shop for small businesses in York.

A project to strengthen BT's provision to businesses in York, Scarborough, Bridlington and Darlington was launched on Monday.

Owned by Mike Cardew, the BT Darlington and York Local Business employs six sales people who can discuss the whole range of BT products with local customers.

York was selected by the phone company because of the high number of small firms in the area.

The business will initially work with about 15,000 existing BT customers, ranging from one person businesses offering single products to multi-line companies with 50 employees.

Mr Cardew said: "We have found that customers are enthusiastic about the BT Local Business proposition. We're giving them a single local point of contact for all their telecoms and IT requirements, taking the hassle out of technology."

BT now plans to create a network of local businesses to cover the whole of the UK. Small businesses in the area can phone the BT Local Business on 01325 370888, or email york@btlocalbusiness.co.uk
