WE have had our differences with Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon over Son of Star Wars at RAF Fylingdales.
So it makes a pleasant change to be able to offer him our congratulations today. He is absolutely right to protect historic regiments such as the Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire.
The origins of this regiment date back to 1685. Generations of the same families have served proudly within it.
At a time when British forces are heavily committed around the world, yet struggle to attract new recruits, it is more crucial than ever that regiments with a noble local tradition are cherished and retained.
