I AGREE that bike theft in York is very low priority for the police (Letters, November 11).
I have had two bikes stolen in the last couple of months, one from my garage which was insured for which I got a new bike. I cycled into town, locked the bike by the Minster and when I returned it had been stolen. I reported both incidents to the police and have heard nothing. When I reported the second theft a policewoman said she would never park a bike in York because of the risk of theft.
This is unacceptable. The city council encourages people to cycle and not drive into town yet it is not safe to leave a bike locked in broad daylight.
