THE relief was palpable for Yorkshire Water after England's last-gasp World Cup win.
Water officials say supporters in York raced to the toilet quicker than speed king Jason Robinson after Jonny Wilkinson's late drop goal clinched victory. Rather than sinking a beer, fans flushed with a rare win over Australia celebrated...by forming a ruck to the loo.
At Naburn sewage treatment works, near York, 3.1 million litres of sewage was processed in the hour after the match, equivalent to 63,000 flushes.
A spokesman said: "During the game the flows coming into our works were unusually low for a Saturday.
"At half-time the flows increased significantly. However in the hour after full-time we were running to almost full capacity."
